It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

The preview shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
